By September 9, 2021BLOG

The first time you try and enable a kids skill, you may find that your Alexa Device is unable to locate the skill you want to try and it may recommend a similar skill, or find an alternative result from the Web, or from a different Amazon service, i.e; Audible.  This is due to Parent/ Guardian permissions not enabled on your account.

To set this up, is straightforward – below, you can find a video guide that will take you through the steps to enable Parent/ Guardian permissions, as well as a text guide that will walk you through what you need to do – as well as providing some images to help you with each step.

Step 1.

The first step is finding a skill you want to try, in the Video Walkthrough below we use Tales of Sasha: The Interactive Audio Game. You can find many different kids skills by using the search bar at the top of the page, or by skill Store and selecting the Kids filter under Alexa Skills.

Step 2.

When you have found a skill that you want to try, you will note that there is a yellow button just under “Get this skill” that reads enable, simply click this button to begin the process of enabling Parent/ Guardian Permissions.

If you have already enabled them, you will be able to Enable the skill straight away and use the invocation to get started.

Step 3.

If you have not enabled Parent/ Guardian Permissions before, once you click the Enable button you will be shown the Profiles that are allocated to your account. You can press the yellow continue button to proceed to the next step.

Step 4.

Once you press continue, you will be asked to enter your password as a simple security step.

Step 5.

The next step is simply verifying that you’re an adult, if you have a Credit/ Debit Card associated to your account, you will be asked to enter your CVV code and to press the yellow verify button.

Step 6.

You will then be shown the Parental Consent Terms of Conditions, once you have read these simple press the yellow “I Agree” button – this is the final step! You may be shown an additional page that shows the profiles that have now been granted Parental Permission, in this case – you can just press the Continue button that will appear.

Step 7.

Once you have pressed Continue on the Parental Consent page, you would have now completed all steps needed to enable kids skills.

Now when you visit a kids skill, you will see that the text above the yellow “Enable” button has now changed to read; “A parent or guardian provided permission to use kids skills.“.

By simply clicking the yellow Enable button once more – you will be able to enable the skill, then simply use the invocation to get started!
